2014 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) Program Project

2014 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) Program Project Update:

Construction will soon begin on the asphalt resurfacing and inlet replacement for the 2014 LMIG project. The project limits begin on North Street between the historic courthouse and the Justice Center and ends on East Main Street before the Highway 20 East divided median begins. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of July 2014. Single lane closures should be expected intermittently throughout the duration of the project. Full detours are not expected at this time.

Marietta Road Project

The Marietta Road Project is currently underway, please expect possible delays in area. The Marietta Road streetscape project begins on Marietta Road near Morris Hill Road at Moore Pontiac and ends at Dr. John T. Pettit Street. The scope of the project will include road resurfacing, drainage improvements with curb, gutter and storm drain installation, improved pedestrian access, including ADA accessible sidewalks and additional street lighting in the commercial area. Also included in the scope of the project will be enhanced landscaping and upgrades to the traffic signal at the intersection of Hickory Flat Road.

Main Street Pedestrian Connector is Underway!

The Main Street Connector Project will consist of pedestrian lighting, crosswalks, improved drainage, new sidewalks with pavers, and new landscaping has begun. This project will cause minor delays in the area, there will be no full lane closures or detours. Below you will find the areas that will be effected and the Traffic Control Plans.

Hickory Log Creek Reservoir Public Access Location

Hickory Log Creek Dam is one of the largest in Georgia not built by the Corps of Engineers or Georgia Power. The reservoir covers 414 acres, features almost 15 miles of shoreline, and holds nearly 6 billion gallons of water.

Boats with electric motors, canoes, and kayaks will be allowed on the water. Boats with gas or diesel motors and sailboats are NOT allowed. The parking area will be open 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, 7 days per week and 7:00 am – 8:00 pm between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Cost is $5.00 per day per vehicle.

Etowah River Park

CITY/COUNTY COLLABORATION (CANTON) Up to $7,000,000
A collaboration to develop the industrial park site on the banks of the Etowah River in Canton that could include the development of baseball/softball fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, multi-purpose fields and a pedestrian bridge to Heritage Park.

Over the summer Etowah River Park has been bustling with activity. Despite the above average precipitation we have had over the summer, construction of the park has continued. The bridge is in place, the boardwalk is progressing, and amphitheater construction is underway. Etowah River park is expected to open in the Spring of 2014.
